About
Moving forward with climate-smart health care
Health Care Without Harm is forging a path for the health sector to close in on zero emissions by 2050 through a series of climate solutions that can protect public health from climate change while accelerating the transition to a low emission, resilient economy. These solutions must also address the need to increase social equity and access to health care. To achieve these goals, we’ve built a strategy to scale climate-smart health care with three interwoven objectives:
Mitigation
Decarbonize health care's energy consumption, operations, and supply chain and reduce its climate footprint in alignment with the ambition of the Paris Agreement.
Resilience
Build health systems and facilities to withstand and thrive despite the impacts of climate change by deploying climate solutions that can achieve more equitable access to care, resulting in healthy, resilient communities.
Leadership
Accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy by being climate policy advocates, leveraging our purchasing power to hasten societal decarbonization, and mobilizing health care institutions, both public and private, as trusted climate communicators.
